Due to the Government Shutdown, American Service members who are deployed will not be payed. Service members who are TDY for schools such as their Basic officer Leadership Course and Captains Career Course must now return to home station or home of record – they are responsible for paying for their own flight on their government travel card and ensuring, regardless of pay, that their card is still paid off. All service members utilizing the GI Bill will cease receiving funds for school. That’s just a few examples of how the shutdown will immediately impact Service Members.
While a shutdown could last 12 hours or 12 days or 2 months, the fact that it happened at all – again – infuriates me. If Social Security and Air Force One will remain unaffected, then deployment pay for guys and girls down range should too.
Less than 20 percent of Congress has ever served in the military. The median age of voters is 20 years younger than the median age of Congress.
The largest reason I want to run for President is to empower our veterans, especially our young veterans, to run for office in order to provide their knowledge on how the systems in place accurately impact their families’ well being.
I recognize why politicians do it but why is it ethical to attach immigration to the same legislation that determines if those willing to give their lives, who spend months or years separated from families, get paid? The budget should not be a time to attach additinal legislation.
Democrat, Republican, Independent or Church of the Spaghetti Monster …. you should all be able to recognize how disgusting this is and that our future needs to be non-partisan before we destroy this beautiful, free country that many before us worked so hard to build.
